Now, after eight long years, there’s a glimmer of hope for answers. Recent developments suggest a potential breakthrough in the case, linking Brooks Houck to the murder of Crystal’s father, Tommy Ballard. Tommy was shot and killed in 2016, a crime that remains unsolved to this day.
“At Houck’s arraignment last week, Hardin County Prosecutor Shane Young said his team recovered a gun reportedly sold by Houck’s brother, Nick, that may have been the same weapon used to kill Ballard,” states a source. The test results are pending, and a motion to reduce Houck’s bond was denied, adding a layer of suspense to the unfolding drama.

Nick Houck, Brooks’ brother and a former Bardstown Police officer, was fired from the local police department for allegedly interfering with the investigation. The Ballard family had long voiced their suspicions about Brooks Houck’s involvement in Crystal’s disappearance.
